NEW MEXICO ATHLETIC DIRECTORS ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES
2011 SCHOLAR ATHLETE AWARDS


The New Mexico Athletic Directors Association, interscholastic athletic directors in the state of New Mexico, is proud to announce the 2011 Male and Female Scholar Athlete Award Winners.

2011 NMADA Female Scholar Athlete – Jordan Grace, La Cueva High School, nominated by Larry Waters, La Cueva High School Athletic Director. Jordan earned 4 varsity letters in cross country and 4 varsity letters in track during her career at LCHS. She has earned multiple individual medals in city, district, and state competition in both sports, performed at an All-State level in both sports, and been an important part of team trophy performances. She has a 4.405 GPA in an academic program which includes several AP courses and her college entrance test scores indicate strong potential at the next level academically. Jordan has been involved in multiple school activities and was the LCHS' Homecoming Queen last fall. In addition to her commitment to academics and athletics, Jordan has somehow found time to hold a part-time job in a retail running shop. She plans to attend New York University and compete in NCAA Division III cross country and track.

2011 NMADA Male Scholar Athlete – Trace Ryder Hathaway, Kirtland Central High School, nominated by Shawna Becenti, Kirtland Central High School Athletic Director. Ryder has earned 10 varsity letters in the athletic program at KCHS. In football, he earned 3 varsity letters, was All-District and has been selected for the North-South All Star Game. In basketball he also earned 3 varsity letters and was a team capitan as a junior and senior. Ryder also earned 4 varsity letters in track and field where he has excelled in the sprints and the hurdles with multiple All-District and All-State medals/honors. Ryder has maintained a 4.0 GPA in a demanding college prep curriculum and is the Valedictorian of the 2011 graduating class at KCHS. In addition to the extensive hours spent in school programs, Ryder also found time to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout.  He plans to attend BYU and participate in track at the collegiate level.

The NMADA Scholar Athlete Awards include a $1000.00 scholarship as well as plaques to the award winners and their high schools. Nominations are accepted from all current NMADA members and all nominees receive certificates of award for representing their schools.
